It’s funny how sometimes life throws the most unbelievable opportunities your way. Things you had never even dared dream of suddenly become a reality, and you just stand back and watch these amazing things happen.
Last November, out of nowhere, I got a message from the managing editor of Altered Couture magazine. They wanted me to submit my work for consideration in their magazine. It took me ’til the last minute to send out my birch tree skirt along with an article they asked me to write. It was in the middle of the busiest crafting season and I was totally sure I had missed my chance. But in January I received another e-mail, saying they had chosen my skirt for their summer issue. I couldn’t believe it, and I almost still can’t!
Yesterday I received a complimentary copy of the Altered Couture Summer 2016 issue. It is the weirdest feeling to see your work presented in such a professional way, right there in a 130-page magazine. I remember where I got that birch tree fabric. I remember taking apart that thrifted pair of jeans to get that awesome waistband. I remember trying to make sure my grammar was perfect and the article good enough to be published, for real, and it was scary. I was worried it would be embarrassing, yet, at the same time I was so excited this was happening to me.
Now that it’s there, out in the open, it does look quite nice after all. And it made me think of this quote I once read somewhere; “if your goals don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough”. I think I’m going to print that out.
Wow, what a beautiful spread…and so well deserved Anna!
Thanks, Jessica! This was one of those out of the blue moments in life that you have no control over! I’m really happy they contacted me and this gives me so much inspiration for my work 🙂
Congratulations!!!! what a wonderful thing!!! 🙂
